First meal guide
Korean BBQ for First-Time Visitors
Korean barbecue is a shared table experience: meat is grilled in front of you and eaten with side dishes, sauces and leafy wraps.
Before ordering
Check whether the menu requires a minimum number of portions and whether the grill specializes in pork, beef or both. One “portion” is not always a complete meal for one person.
At the table
- Let staff take over if they begin grilling the meat.
- Use the provided grill tools rather than personal chopsticks for raw meat.
- Try meat alone first, then add sauce or make a lettuce wrap.
- Order rice, stew, noodles or fried rice if you want a fuller finish.
Dietary questions
Do not assume a vegetable side dish is vegetarian or that beef is halal. Broths, sauces and grills may involve meat, seafood or alcohol. Ask the restaurant directly and use officially categorized Muslim-friendly listings when relevant.
Paying and service
Tipping is generally not expected. Water and some side dishes may be self-service; follow the signs or ask staff.
