T-money Card Guide

T-money is a rechargeable stored-value card commonly used across Seoul-area buses and subways, with additional acceptance at some taxis and convenience services.

How to use it

1. Buy a card from an authorized retailer or supported station facility.
2. Load enough value for the next few trips.
3. Tap when entering and exiting the subway.
4. On buses, tap when boarding and again when leaving.

Important habits

• Each traveler should use a separate card for transfers.
• Keep the same card throughout a connected journey.
• Check the remaining balance before late-night or airport travel.
• Do not assume every kiosk accepts an overseas payment card.

Single-journey ticket or T-money?

A single-journey subway ticket can work for one isolated ride, but it is subway-only and includes a refundable deposit. A rechargeable transit card is usually simpler when taking multiple subway and bus trips.
