Vegetarian Food in Korea

A dish that looks vegetable-based may still contain meat or seafood broth, fish sauce, egg or crab-flavored ingredients. Describe what you avoid rather than using only the word “vegetarian.”

Ingredients to ask about

Better starting points

Dedicated vegan restaurants and temple-food restaurants are easier for strict needs. In regular restaurants, prepare a translated sentence listing meat, fish, seafood, egg or dairy according to your diet.

Safety boundary

A preference and a serious allergy require different precautions. If cross-contact could cause harm, contact the restaurant in advance and do not rely only on a menu icon or verbal shorthand.
